Chewbacca's Hair Secrets Have Finally Been Revealed

Though details have begun to trickle out about Star Wars: The Force Awakens, there are still troves of mysteries yet to be uncovered. (Thanks, J.J.) But one that we no longer have to wait for is the secret to how Chewbacca’s hair looks so luxurious in each film. Allure talked to Maria Cork, "the supervisor of the hair department in creature effects" for The Force Awakens, to find out exactly how the costume was created and how it is kept in pristine condition. Actor Peter Mayhew wore four and a half suits (the half suit was for close-ups) throughout filming, and Cork details all the products—from curling wands and moisturizer to Tangle Teezer and multiple kinds of hair spray—used to keep Han's furry best friend in tip-top shape. Everyone who fights to keep their hair under control sometimes feels like they’re untangling Wookiee fur, so this is a relieving and ingenious way of looking at hair care.
