Prepare your Wookiee impressions now: It looks like there could be a Chewbacca movie coming.
And it’s not being made by George Lucas.
Just a day after we found out about the plan to bring Peter Mayhew — the actor beloved by Star Wars fans the world over for his portrayal of Chewbacca — to Mardi Gras, news came out Thursday that there is a biopic in the works on the 7-foot, 2-inch Brit.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie — titled Chewie (or possibly Chewie: The Movie) — is being developed by director Kyle Newman, who previously helmed Fanboys, writer Ernie Cline’s homage to Star Wars fandom. The film still seems to very much be in the works, but Mayhew himself is on board, judging by this tweet:
Newman, who is developing the film with Inferno Entertainment, responded to the tweet with “going to be a special one!” The script for the Wookiee film is reportedly going to center on the making of 1977’s A New Hope and follow Mayhew’s journey to becoming one of the most beloved furry friends in Hollywood history.
This movie cannot come soon enough. In the meantime, let’s all just enjoy this Chewie supercut.
