How do you weird-out ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic? A very determined fan freaked out the “Eat It” guy enough to make the master parodist hightail it through a water park.
The event happened about 15 years ago when Yankovic was enjoying a day off at an amusement park in North Carolina. A father of two recognized the star and implored him to “make my kids famous!” The man followed him for about an hour before Yankovic inquired about the children’s talents, which were nonexistent. But, the father said, “You can teach ’em!”
“That’s about when I realized this wasn’t a loving, caring dad, this was a nutball,” Yankovic says in the video above. “At that point I literally turned around and ran as fast as I could in the other direction … and he chased me!”
The tale, which Yankovic relayed to MTV for its animated “Now I Can Die” series, seems like the kind of thing that could only happen to the genuinely affable Yankovic. It also seems like the kind of thing that could only happen at a water park in North Carolina in the 1990s.
