My husband's previous job allowed us to travel to several countries over the years. Since we love to travel I am always on the lookout for books that will expose my kids to other cultures around the world. Our most recent find was a book called Dodsworth in Rome by Tim Egan. This book is the latest in a series for kids age 4-8 that takes Dodsworth and his pet duck to New York
, Paris, and London
.
Dodsworth is a well-dressed mouse who takes his pet duck on a trip to visit the Eternal City. In this short chapter book, the unlikely pair visit many of the famous sites in Rome as well as engage in a local pizza-throwing contest. The duck provides comic relief throughout the book and the pair has several misadventures all against the back drop of Rome and the Vatican. Geekette thoroughly enjoyed this book and even laughed at the antics of the duck. She was able to read it mostly independent with a little assistance on unfamiliar words. This was an excellent book to pique her interest in Italy and introduce her to the city of Rome.
