The PC version of Ubisoft's forthcoming game R.U.S.E. won't be saddled with the restrictive DRM used on some of its other games, the publisher said on its official forum Wednesday.

The strategy game will utilize Valve's Steamworks, meaning that a Steam account and Internet connection will needed to activate the game. But those who want to play a single-player game offline will be free to do so.

(The game's website still contains the warning: "Permanent Internet connection is required to play the game." Somebody might want to get on that.)

Ubisoft took heat from PC gamers this year when Assassin's Creed 2 and Settlers 7 were released with DRM that required a constant Internet connection to play.

R.U.S.E. is due out for the PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on September 17.
