Driving home the point that publisher Activision Blizzard really knows how to exploit a franchise, Reuters claims the Guitar Hero games may be making the leap from gaming stalwart to television series and concert tour.

Citing anonymous people familiar with the franchise discussions, Reuters also finds evidence in commentary from CEO Bobby Kotick. Speaking at an interview before the company's recent quarterly earnings call, Kotick remaked that Guitar Hero "might make for a good TV show or a good concert tour."

Given that the firm plans to release almost 8 entries in the GH series during 2009, and other popular franchises such as World of Warcraft are being adapted into feature films, it would be no surprise to hear that Activision Blizzard is attempting to shift the franchise into the world of TV and concerts.

If this rumor proves true, one wonders exactly how much of this kind of series-milking the GH franchise can take before fans completely turn on the publisher.
