Giant reptiles and villains garbed in rocket-launching bras will invade New York Comic Con on Friday, when Japanese director Takashi Miike presents the world premiere of Yatterman.
The live-action film casts Kyoko Fukada (pictured above, center) as the lethally clad Doranjo, who wreaks havoc in a bid to attain eternal youth.
Crammed with dancing superheroes, dinosaurs and robots, Yatterman looks to be a flashy, feel-good departure for Miike (see trailer below). The director based Yatterman on the risqué 1977 TV series of the same name created by anime auteur Tatsuo Yoshida (Battle of the Planets, Speed Racer).
Miike is famous in the West for ultraviolent films including Audition, Ichi the Killer and Dead or Alive. His fan club reportedly includes such gore masters as Quentin Tarantino and Hostel director Eli Roth.
Miike and actor Sho Sakurai, who stars in Yatterman as the crime-fighting son of a toy shop owner, will be on hand at New York
Comic Con to answer questions following Friday's 8 p.m. EST screening at the Directors Guild Building.
Tapping into the the comic book/show-biz crossover celebrated last summer at Comic Con International in San Diego, New York Comic Con will host in-person appearances by talent from TV series Fringe, Chuck, Dollhouse and Torchwood in addition to presentations by Marvel, DC, Dark Horse and other comics powerhouses.
New York Comic Con runs Friday through Sunday.
