A contrite Christian Bale said he had a bad case of Terminator Salvation crazies when he teed off on a cinematographer in his now-infamous on-set rant last summer.

Bale said the scene being shot at the time of his meltdown required him to "show a little of that ‘in the blood’ craziness" that anybody would feel when faced with killer robots on a genocidal campaign.

Getting into the character of John Connor led him to act “like a punk,” he said Friday in a chat with KROQ radio hosts Kevin and Bean.

"I got annoyed, and then, what happened, I made it ugly," Bale said. "And that was awful of me. I took it way too far, and I completely mixed up fact and fiction. I’m half John Connor, I’m half Christian there."

Bale, who played Batman in The Dark Knight, apologized to Terminator Salvation director of photography Shane Hurlbut, who bore the brunt of the actor’s F-bomb-laden tirade. The lengthy and somewhat hilarious reaming has spawned numerous remixes and parodies in the days since the audio file surfaced online this week.

"I have no confusion whatsoever," Bale said. "I was out of order beyond belief.

"I acted like a punk. I regret that, and there is nobody that has heard that tape that is hit harder by it than me," he said. "I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable and I hope that that is absolutely clear."

The full audio of Bale’s apology can be heard on the KROQ website.
